CardioBridge is currently developing a 10F RCP. This miniaturised circulatory support device will have at least the same pumping capacity compared to the 14F RCP but with an reduced insertion diameter especially for the cardiology market.
|With a propeller diameter of 15 mm (deployed) the RCP is able to generate a high flow capacity. This high flow capacity and the fact that the pump is working in series with the heart has some important advantages and is very physiological: The RCP allows the native heart to work against lower pressure (afterload reduction) while the perfusion to the internal organs is increased to prevent organ failure (e.g kidney). In series also means that the RCP can even be used in patients where other pumps have contraindications like artificial heart valves, atrial fibrillation or a thrombus in the left ventricle.
